Hillary Hyde, MSW started Good Books NW, LLC, along with its sister blogs Good Divorce Books, Good Blended Family Books and Good Grief Books. Why? Because these are areas of her professional and personal interest. They are also very potent areas where personal examination and change is required. She is a firm believer in arming yourself with information so you can make good choices.
She holds a Masters degree in Social Work from Portland State University, and a B.S. in Psychology from Colorado State University.
Hillary has worked with families for more than 15 years. She has been a parent educator, mediator, and custody evaluator. Hillary teaches mandated classes for parents divorcing or making custody decisions and has talked with thousands of people navigating their way through those processes. In addition, she has worked in Early Intervention/Early Childhood Special Education, assisting families who have young children with disabilities or developmental delays.
In addition to her professional experience, she brings personal experience to her work. Hillary grew up in a divorced family and is part of several stepfamilies. She is the mother of one and the stepmother of one. She is a solo parent and widow. Upon the sudden death of her partner, she began her deep relationship with grief and continues to mine the riches that are found there. Her life experiences have brought unexpected changes, loss of dreams, and concern for the impact of these life events on her children. Reading lots of good books has helped her immeasurably along the way.
In addition to her musings, she includes the writing and opinions of others who are involved with grief.
